We are Currently Looking for an Experienced Alerton Systems Service Technician.
THE POSITION: HVAC DDC Controls Service Technician
Under general supervision, designs, installs, repairs, maintains, monitors, and troubleshoots HVAC control systems, energy management systems, digital controls, pneumatic controls, and HVAC equipment to ensure correct heating, cooling, and fresh air ventilation in various facilities. Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following. Plan, design, schedule, install and/or coordinate the installation of DDC Systems and upgrades in various facilities and buildings; perform start-up, checkout, troubleshooting, and complete a final critical adjustment and calibration on automation systems. Operate, maintain, diagnose, calibrate, and repair computerized HVAC systems and controlled devices; install, ensure proper operation of, and maintain, microprocessor-based electronic equipment. Work in conjunction with departments to implement energy management initiatives through programming and systems upgrades; make recommendations for design changes; develop and write specifications and contractual documents; review construction blueprints and specifications; attend construction progress meetings; specify and order parts; create control graphics and write/modify control programs. Maintain, correct, and enhance building HVAC systems efficiency and function by diagnosing trouble or defects in sensors, field panels, cabinets, control consoles and network systems which make up the DDC control systems; handle emergency service calls along with HVAC Mechanics either on-site or on-line as needed. Monitor building automation controls system; make computer commands to start and stop fans, pumps, and related systems; operate electronic control systems; operate/change functions and systems for computerized energy management equipment; modify programs on computerized control systems; program computers and microprocessors using Appropriate System based programming language; assess effectiveness of HVAC systems interconnected with computer and energy management control systems; ensure quality control of system operation. Conduct in-house training to expand shop personnel knowledge of DDC systems; work with Facilities Services Superintendent and others to plan and develop future growth needs and considerations for DDC Network. Assist in the coordination, monitoring and inspection of installations and/or repairs performed by a contractor. Analyze air conditioning problems and adjust pneumatic, electronic and mechanical thermostats and other controls to obtain maximum effect. Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and make repairs and adjustments to air cooled and water cooled chillers, cooling towers, multi-zone air handling systems, double duct air distribution systems, compressors, coils, boilers, condensers, expansion valves, fans, bearings, thermostats, and motors of various makes of heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment. Estimate requirements, order materials and equipment necessary for installation and repair of heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration units. Keep routine work records and prepare necessary reports. May act as leadworker to Building Repairers and Maintenance Workers. May be assigned to assist in other maintenance work as required. Assume personal responsibility for ensuring the duties of the position are performed in a safe, efficient manner. Performs other related duties as assigned or as the situation requires.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Knowledges, Skills, Abilities
Knowledge of HVAC diagnostics. Knowledge of DDC systems. Knowledge of Alerton Control systems.
Knowledge of Alerton programming language.
Knowledge of relationship of air distribution and human comfort in indoor environments.
Knowledge of relationship between air systems and load/occupancy demands.
Knowledge of HVAC codes and standards. Knowledge of thermodynamics and psychometrics.
Knowledge of current technologies in the HVAC industry and in DDC systems.
Knowledge of and skill in good customer service practices.
Knowledge of the equipment and procedures utilized in maintaining heating and air conditioning principles.
Knowledge of heating and air conditioning principles. Knowledge of environmental health and indoor air quality.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and electronic schematics. Ability to maintain work records and generate reports.
Ability to read, write and comprehend directions in English. Ability to troubleshoot and repair HVAC malfunctions.
Ability to bend, stoop and climb ladders; lift and carry approximately 90 pounds; work in all types of environmental conditions.
Ability to discern colors of electrical wires and in schematics and diagrams.
Ability to establish smooth working relationships and resolve interpersonal conflicts.
Ability to develop necessary skills from on-the-job training and meet the standards of performance for the classification by the end of the probationary period.
DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGES SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of, and experience with Andover DDC systems.
OTHER CHARACTERISTICS
Willingness to work overtime as requested and respond to emergency calls in a reasonable time.
Willingness to assume personal responsibility for maintaining a safe working environment.
EDUCATION/TRAINING
Graduation from high school or attainment of GED or CHSPE certificate.
EXPERIENCE
Four years of experience in the maintenance and repair of commercial/industrial heating, air conditioning or refrigeration systems along with journey-level experience in designing, installing, repairing, maintaining, monitoring, and troubleshooting direct digital control HVAC systems or four years experience as an HVAC Controls Technician in a multi-facility organization.
LICENSE
Valid Class C Hawaii driver’s license.
NOTE:
An equivalent combination of experience, education and/or training may substitute for the listed minimum requirements.
